Who are you?
I am Linda Long.
What do you do?
I am a business teacher at Linton-Stockton High School. I started my teaching career at Linton forty-two years ago. Subjects I have taught include typing (also known as keyboarding and digital tools), shorthand, general business, accounting, and computer applications. Vocational programs I have taught include the Business Lab and Interdisciplinary Cooperative Education. I have been the sponsor of Office Education Association (and later known as Business Professionals of America). Our chapter won the top charter award in the national as well as having a national first place winner in one of the competitive events.
Where in Greene County do you reside?
My husband and I live in Bloomfield, Indiana.
If someone was coming to Greene County Indiana for the first time, what would you suggest they put on their “must see or do” list?
There are many historical sites to see in Greene County. The first site that one should see is the Tulip Trestle. Others include Walnut Grove Water Company, Richland Creek Covered Bridge, Bloomfield Mural Wall, You’ll Like Linton signs, Goosepond, Shakamak State Park, Greene-Sullivan State Forest, Old Clifty Church, and the Scotland Hotel.
What would you describe as the ideal “night on the town” in Greene County?
Having dinner with friends at a nice restaurant is always a good way to spend an evening.
What other things do you enjoy doing in Greene County?
I enjoy going to the small country church where the people are very friendly, attending activities sponsored by the Greene County Historical Society, and participating in events at the scrapbooking shop in Linton. I also enjoy researching about the historical sites in Greene County. Our family enjoys taking a picnic lunch to the state park.
What would you say about the people who live here in Greene County?
The people in Greene County are friendly and caring. Neighbors lend a helpful hand when in need.
What would you say to someone if they told you that they were interested in moving to Greene County?
If big city life is not for you, Greene County is the perfect place for you. Since I do not like the “hustle and bustle” including the traffic of a big city, I consider Greene County a wonderful place to live. Although there is a rural atmosphere, you are not far from Bloomington, Vincennes, or Terre Haute if you want shop in larger cities.
What does Greene County Indiana mean to you?
Greene County is home. It is rich in history. It has that “home-town” feeling. Not only will “You’ll Like Linton” but you will also like Greene County and its residents.
