In Case You Missed It: Lt. Governor Skillman Announces Expansion of Boone County Motorsports Company

Lt. Governor Becky Skillman Joins International Motorsports Marketer to Announce Expansion

Last week, I had the opportunity to join executives from global motorsports marketer Just Marketing International to announce the company's plan to grow its corporate headquarters in Boone County and create more than 45 jobs by 2012.  Indiana has great potential in the growth of the motorsports industry, and Just Marketing is part of that momentum with their $3 million investment.

Governor Daniels and I, along with our partners at the Indiana Economic Development Corporation, work hard to make sure that Indiana remains the motorsports capital of the world. Over the last six years, Indiana's motorsports industry has grown more than 35 percent. Our state is home to 1,400 different businesses involved in the industry, with thousands of Hoosiers employed by the companies. Since 2005, more than 300 new motorsports jobs have been added to our state, and more than $33 million has been invested in the industry.

As the national leader in auto racing, and the home of the world-famous Indianapolis 500, we will continue to pursue companies like Just Marketing. We hope that other motorsports-related companies will locate and expand here. Job expansions like this help build Indiana's reputation as the primary location for motorsports businesses.

See you at the Speedway!

Zionsville company's success highlights growing industry

Indianapolis - The Indianapolis Motor Speedway was closed for practice Tuesday, but the state was open for the businesses of racing. A Zionsville company is expanding to keep up with the growing motor sports industry.

Behind all the decals and drivers, there are dollars, jobs and entire companies running on the business of motor sports.

"We will go to racing facilities where people can play race driver for a day," said Zak Brown, Just Marketing International.

Just Marketing International is adding 45 jobs and expanding its Zionsville headquarters. The company brokers deals among sponsors, race tracks and  teams. With offices in four countries and three American cities, founder Zak Brown chose to stay in the world's motor sports capital.

"It's because of the people, the passion, the cost of living, the style of living," Brown said.

Roughly 12,000 Hoosiers earn a living  from racing. In the three years since Gov. Mitch Daniels' administration made motor sports industry a top priority, it's  attracted only 300 new jobs.

"I suspect the 300 people who have those jobs think it's a big initiative and it's been $33 million of private capital investment in the industry as well," said Lt. Gov. Becky Skillman.
