Lt. Governor Skillman Announces More Jobs
For Southern Indiana Hoosiers
|
Last week I was in Clark County to announce 93 new jobs at Marine Builders Inc., a custom boat builder in Utica. Securing jobs for Hoosiers and revitalizing Indiana’s economy in small towns is a top priority for me and Governor Daniels. We are thrilled to see our efforts beginning to pay off. This announcement builds upon the economic development momentum that began when we established the State’s Economic Development Corporation. Since January 2005, 52 companies have committed to create more than 8,200 jobs for Hoosiers in Southeast Indiana. |

David Evanckzyk, president of Marine Builders Inc., along with his team of 42 marine engineers, welders and fabricators welcomed me and gave me a tour of their facility, which will add 10,000 square feet to accommodate the new employees that will be on board by 2010. Marine Builders specializes in designing and building custom workboats, barges, tugs, dry docks and yachts. During the tour, I stepped aboard a 100-foot tow boat as it was being built. The boat was beautiful, with many amenities like a kitchen and exercise room. |

At the end of the tour I commandeered the captain’s seat with David’s permission. As I sat in the captain’s chair, I took in panoramic views of the Ohio River and could not help to think how bright Southeast Indiana’s future is. I look forward to my next visit. |
