Putting More Money In Your Pocket

Dear Friend,

Every day I hear from Hoosiers struggling to shoulder the burden of rising gas prices, and small business owners just trying to keep their heads above water. I believe that anytime we can put more of the taxpayers’ dollars back into their own hands, it’s a good thing for them and for our economy.

That’s why I voted to support a bipartisan, temporary economic stimulus package to jumpstart the economy and put hundreds of dollars back into the pockets of Hoosiers.

The bill provides tax rebates to 2.6 million households in Indiana. The average tax rebate in Indiana, to those who are eligible, is expected to be $923.

And because small businesses form the backbone of the American economy, the bill also provides tax cuts for them. Specifically, it doubles the amount small businesses can immediately deduct from their taxes for capital investments to encourage investment in new equipment. This tax relief will encourage growth and help get our economy back on track.

I was glad to see Republicans and Democrats coming together on this important piece of legislation, and I hope the Senate will stay focused on provisions that stimulate the economy. That being said, Indiana seniors are also struggling financially too, and Congress should ensure they aren’t left behind.

Finally, it’s important to remember this bill is meant to be a shot in the arm of an ailing economy. It’s only a temporary fix. Congress must follow it up with long-term policies that address skyrocketing energy and health care prices, reduce government spending, and help American businesses and workers remain competitive in the global economy.

Sincerely,

Brad Ellsworth
