Chainsaw Bear

Chainsaw Bear

In the fall of 2005 a resident from Scotland, Indiana, made an unusual project out of an old tree in his daughter’s yard. The project was a 10-foot-5-inch bear holding a fish. The bear took 25 to 30 hours to construct and was made only with a chainsaw.

The chainsaw bear is located in Monica Lee’s front yard and is considered quite an attraction. Even though most people think the chainsaw bear is located in Bloomfield, it is actually in a small town called Hashtown located on the east side of Bloomfield. The bear stands in its original location on 12th Street as it is still attached to the tree trunk.

The chainsaw bear was built by Jim Lee of Scotland, Indiana. The chainsaw bear was constructed from a tree after it was hit by lightning and killed it.  The trunk of the tree was still standing, and Jim thought he could make something great out of it. The chainsaw bear turned out just as Jim had envisioned.  At the time of its construction, the bear holding the fish was the biggest chainsaw project he has ever created.
