2007 - 08 Rules and Regulations
The diversity of habitats and wildlife at Goose Pond offers a place for you to enjoy a variety of wildlife related experiences. The ongoing wetland restoration provides unique wildlife viewing, research, hunting, trapping, and fishing opportunities. Many people will be engaged in many different activities at one time on this property. It is the responsibility of each visitor to use this property in a way that does not detract from the enjoyment of other visitors. Please be courteous to other visitors. To ensure a quality experience for all visitors please follow these regulations.
Rules and Regulations
In addition to state fish and wildlife laws, this property is governed by posted regulations affecting the public use of lands and facilities owned, leased or licensed by the Department of Natural Resources. Pursuant to the Authority Chapter 60, Acts of 1919, Chapter 120 and Chapter 441 Acts of 1965; and the Indiana Code of 1971, 14-3-3.
Posted Areas
Safety Zones, waterfowl resting areas and other restricted areas are marked with appropriate signs. PLEASE READ AND OBEY ALL SIGNS.
Violations
Violation of any law, rule or regulation governing this property may be cause for forfeiting your hunting, fishing or visiting privileges on this area.
Responsibility
The Division of Fish and Wildlife, Department of Natural Resources, will not be held responsible for any accidents or deaths occurring from the use of these facilities.
Permits
A one-day permit card is required for all property visitors. One-day permit cards must be in possession of the visitor and recorded through established self-service procedures outlined at the self-service booth. Self-service drop boxes and check-in booths are located at various sites on the property for your convenience (see map for locations). Hunting and/or fishing licenses are required to hunt and/or fish on this property. No shooting of woodchucks (groundhogs) is allowed. A collecting permit issued by the property manager is required to collect anything except nuts, berries, and mushrooms. No Camping or swimming is allowed.
Traffic
Traffic on public roads through the area is governed by state and county laws. Vehicular use of area roads is limited to those shown on the property map. Use of all other service roads and trails is restricted to walking. Parking is allowed in designated areas only.
2007-08 Property Rules
Goose Pond Fish & Wildlife Area
Goose Pond Fish and Wildlife Area is still in the process of being restored by the Natural Resource Conservation Service through the Wetlands Reserve Program. The restoration is expected to be ongoing for the next several years. As such, the property map and rules will require annual revisions and/or updates. DFW urges property users to regularly check that they have the most recent edition of the property map and property rules.
Wildlife Viewing & Other Activities
- All property visitors are required to sign-in and obtain a one-day permit card at the self-service booth. The card is to be deposited in a drop box after each day afield.
Waterfowl Hunting
- The 2007-08 waterfowl hunting schedule is undetermined at this time. When finalized, the schedule will be included in future revisions of this publication.
- Waterfowl hunting opportunities will be allocated through pre-season and open draws. The applications for the pre-season drawing will be available online at http://www.in.gov/dnr/fishwild/ and at other FWAs. The 2007-08 waterfowl open draw schedule is not yet known.
- Teal and Early Goose season opportunities will be allocated through draws at the property check station at 5:30AM. The drawings will take place each Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday during Teal and Early Goose Season.
- The maximum size of a hunting party is three hunters. All members of a hunting party must be present to participate in the open draws. Reserved hunts are not transferable.
- Hunting will be allowed from ½ hour before sunrise until sunset each Monday, Thursday and Saturday. Hunting will be allowed from ½ hour before sunrise until 12:00PM on all other days.
- Each waterfowl hunter may possess a maximum of 15 shotgun shells while hunting on this property.
- Trailer launched watercraft are not permitted. Electric trolling motors are allowed.
- Upland game hunting opportunities will be allocated through pre-season draws and open draws. The applications for the pre-season draws are in the 2007-08 Hunting Guide. The open draws will take place at 8:30AM on 11/10, 11/24, 12/8, 12/22, 1/5, 1/9, 1/16, 1/19, 1/23, 1/26 & 1/30. Depending on the outcome of the fall covey survey, an additional open draw may take place each Wednesday during quail season. Hunters wishing to participate in the possible Wednesday draws are encouraged to contact (812)659-9901prior to each Wednesday to confirm that a drawing will take place.
- Hunting parties are limited to (2) hunters.
- Only shotshells loaded with non-toxic shot may be possessed by hunters on this property.
- The daily bag limit for quail on this property is four.
5. Hunting for upland game and migratory gamebirds is allowed only from 9 am until 3 pm local time.
Dove Hunting
1. There will be a drawing to allocate dove hunting opportunities during the first three (3) days of dove season. The drawings will take
place at 11:00am on September 1 – September 3 at the check station.
Deer Hunting
- There will be a drawing each Monday, Thursday and Saturday during deer firearm season at 6:15AM at the check station. All other deer hunting (Early Archery, Muzzleloader & Late Archery) will be self-service.
- Bonus anterless licenses will be honored at this property throughout all deer seasons.
Trapping
- Trapping is allowed through a special drawing. The drawing will be held at the property check station on Saturday October 6th at 10:00AM.
All Other Hunting
Hunting for all other species (squirrel, turkey, raccoon.. etc) will be available on a first-come, first-served basis by checking in daily at the self service booths.
