Greene County Daily World

Greene County Daily World

The Greene County Daily World is the newspaper that basically covers the news in Greene County.  The newspaper itself is over one hundred years old.

Linton’s first newspaper was the Laborer’s Tribune, and it was created in May 1884 by Ebenezer Brooks Barlow.  The newspaper went out of business and was replaced with the Linton Enterprise.  Other Linton newspapers that have come and gone were the Linton Call, Linton Record, Linton Daily Sentinel, and Linton Daily Call.

In 1905 the Linton Citizens was established and was renamed the Linton Daily Citizen in 1909.  After being owned by several individuals and companies, the newspaper was purchased by Rust Communications, who also purchased the The Evening World in Bloomfield.

After more than 75 years of Greene County being served by two daily newspapers, Rust Communications decided to publish one newspaper for the county and named the merged papers The Daily World, starting with the January 3, 2006 issue.  Then on January 2, 2007, the name was changed to the Greene County Daily World to reflect that the newspaper covered the entire county.

On March 27, 2007, the newspaper started publishing the newspaper on Tuesday through Saturday instead of Monday through Friday.  In addition, the newspaper was delivered by mail instead of utilizing paper carriers.
