Linton Fire Station

Linton Fire Station

Linton’s new Fire Station is located on State Road 54 at Second Street NW in Linton, Indiana.  It was completed in December 2006 before Christmas Day.  The Fire Station was started by Mayor Tom Jones in an effort to replace the old crumbling station and lower the city’s insurance rates.

The old station was built in 1906, when horses pulled the fire trucks.  The old station was also shared by the city’s police force.  It is not known at this time what will be done with the old building, but the building may likely be demolished for construction of future projects.

The project began after the ground-breaking ceremony on November 11, 2005.  The new fire station was originally planned to be completed in June 2006 but was not completed until late December that same year.  The new building is several times larger than the old one.  It is large enough to hold all the trucks used by the Linton Fire Department.  The old one could only hold two trucks at a time.

Nine contracting companies bid on the rights to build the new station.  The combined total cost was over $10 million.  Among the bidders were Hanning, Eden Enterprises, CDI Inc., Graves Plumbing, and Toltest, Inc.  The new station is funded through taxes, as the city did not qualify for Homeland Security grants to fund the station.
