Linton Public Library
Linton Public Library
For many years the Margaret Cooper Public Library has served the Linton community by organizing various events for families and children to come and enjoy. Not to mention the countless books and pieces of literature that the library has kept in steady supply to facilitate the needs of the community. The library has made changes in the past years to stay as current and as up-to-date as possible, but in January 2007 a new library began construction blocks away from the original library.
The new library, located at the corner of Southeast First and Southwest A Streets in Linton, was formerly the Linton-Stockton Chamber of Commerce parking lot. The building was constructed by Neidigh Construction of Bloomington and was designed by Woollen, Molzan and Partners Inc. This company has designed many facilities, such as libraries, conservatories, as well as redesigning churches.
The 10,651 square foot facility was designed to the city’s specifications at a cost of $1.3 million. The beautiful design of red bricks with curved, double paned windows gives a modern look to the outside of the library.
The library will contain several computers for members to access the internet. There will also be a new and improved children’s center with new shelves, new rooms for children who like to read in silence, and a new supply of books for them to enjoy as well. New furniture will be added to the library to accommodate readers who like to rest and relax while reading. There will also be more than five hundred new books added to the collection.
The main idea for the new library, according to the board, will be convenience, comfort, and ease. The board is having a large hallway put in for the art displays so that the library can proudly display the artwork without having to put holes or nails in the wall when they change the pictures. The new library is adaptable and versatile. The old library has served as a great benefit to the city and the newly improved library will do the same also for years to come.
