Park Inn

Park Inn Motel

The Park Inn is currently Greene County’s largest motel. Originally it was used as housing for visitors at the Knoxville World’s Fair. The inn is now located next to Humphreys Park east on Highway 54 in Linton.

Sherman Anderson and Donald Gregg were wanting to construct a motel in Linton but found the cost was much higher than what they had planned. Anderson and Gregg then decided to purchase one of the hotels from the Knoxville World’s Fair.

They had the motel shipped from Knoxville to Linton; it was a major project in itself. It took 36 semi-loads to get all of the 50 units to Linton, and it took several months to put it together. They started assembling it in December 1982; the work was finished on April 4, 1983.

The Park Inn has 50 rooms that offer all the things one might expect in a fine inn. It has beautiful luxury suites with adjoining rooms and other special accommodations. The Park Inn Community Room is available for wedding receptions, business meetings, family reunions, and club meetings. The inn is a beautiful two-story brick building with a window on the outside of every room. Some of the rooms have a view of Humphreys Park.

Their spacious and attractive rooms offer the following:

· Color television with movie and sports stations

· AM/FM radio in all rooms

· Suites with king-sized beds and other special features

· Rooms designed especially for the handicapped

· Telephones in every room

· Air conditioning and heating

The motel had only three rooms rented on its grand opening. Throughout the years occupancy has increased to the point where at times there are no vacancies. Summer is the busiest time of the year at the hotel. Many construction or other workers from out of town spend weeks there, and the motel quickly fills up during the annual Phil Harris weekend.

Some of the celebrities who have stayed at the inn include Phil Harris, Alice Faye, Jimmy Dean, Forrest Tucker, Pete Fountain, Lee Greenwood, Claude Akins, Pat Buttram, Randy Carmichael, and Bobby Knight. In addition, several professional golfers and many other celebrities who have attended the Phil Harris Festival have stayed at the hotel by the park. The inn has had visitors from every state except Idaho. It has also had many visitors from various foreign countries.
